Everything that you need to know to be a part of conservation!
Hi, I’m Sydney, a zoologist and aspiring conservation researcher with a passion for big cats, human-wildlife coexistence, and turning data into conservation action. I hold an MSci in Zoology from the University of Exeter, where I explored everything from stress physiology to behavioural ecology to computational modelling. I love experiencing different cultures and have carried out fieldwork in Scotland, Kenya, and Hong Kong with travel to deepen my understanding of conservation across the globe. Alongside research, I’ve worked in zoos, run science outreach programmes, and shared my knowledge with people of all ages and backgrounds.
This blog is where I share my journey as I build a career in conservation: the science I’m learning, the skills I’m developing, and the experiences I gain along the way. My goal is to contribute to big cat research and conservation worldwide while making the field more open, engaging, and inspiring for others who want to follow a similar path.
Welcome to my page, thank you so much for your support! Read more on my story here.
Conservation is about protecting species, ecosystems, and the processes that support life, while balancing the needs of people and wildlife. It involves science, policy, and real-world decision making, often in complex and challenging environments.
The Big Cat Conservationist started as a way to explore the science behind conservation and share it in a way that actually makes sense. It’s also a place to document my journey into the field and show what it really takes to build a career in conservation.
